Can I use store bought chocolate frosting as the base of a cake and use buttercream to decorate.

I am out of town the 2 weeks before a cake is due for a friend, not business but I really want it to look awesome.

It's a very tall cake and it's frosted all in chocolate frosting, I don't need it to be smooth just stable. Then accent in buttercream colors.

For some of the colors, I will use the wilton tubes. I just don't have time to do everything from scratch that day.

Any thoughts, advice, especially on brand of choc frosting would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Cristy

You certainly can use store bought chocolate. The bc will stick to it just fine. Since I have been making my own, I haven't bought store-bought icing of any kind, so I cannot be of help with what brand to use.
