Need Instructions On How To Carve A Sneaker Cake!!!

My DS has asked for a 3D Nike sneaker cake for his birthday(doesnt think i can do it) icon_confused.gif ....I have never carved a cake so if anyone can give me any kind of tips or pointers I would greatly appreciate it(gotta prove him wrong) icon_twisted.gif ...I need to know what size pan I should start with to carve and how to get the shape i want....TIA

I also have to do a Nike Sneaker Cake mine is due this weekend. I found an image of the sole on the Internet and printed it out. I traced it on waxed paper and put it on a projector, traced the image on more waxed paper and cut that out. I will use 3-9x13 pans, put the cut-out on top and carve. If you do not have a projector I have read here that some took a tennis shoe and traced it on waxed paper to get the shape. I plan to have a sneaker in the room for visuals. If it is not to late for you I will post pictures when I am done. Keep your fingers crossed that it comes out pretty good. HTH
