I've had an order for a 2 tier first birthday cake. The top tier is shaped like a cupcake, and will be used for the baby's smash cake. The clientwants buttercream icing on the top if it, but I'm using fondant for the rest. She wants a large "1" on top.... I've made it out of gumpaste, but how do I stabilize it?

Any help would be appreciated!

You mean you want the "1" to stand up vertical? If so, then as you're making it out of gumpaste, you insert a wire with a hooked end. Once the number dries with the wire in it, then you stick it into the cake.
