I was watching Charmed City Cakes one nite and they use these giant straws. I emailed them as to where they order them, but got no reply. I purchase some of these to see how they work. I hate cutting those darn wooden ones. Thanks for the info.

Plastic lollipop stick might work, but paper ones would just get soggy and your cake would fall.

I used to use some unused dog nail clippers, until my dad showed me something he uses to cut thick electrical wire. They are big plier type things but they do the job fast!

I wonder why they dont sell these straws at the local cake decorating supply stores. They would make (decorators) lives so much easier. I love this site, its so informative and a good source of great decorating ideas. A lot of the decorators on this site is truly amazing at this craft. I've learned and have grown just visiting here daily. Thanks to all of you who share your great pictures and dont mind helping when asked.

I use a very small hack saw with a fine blade to cut my wooden dowels. My mom actually gave it to my husband for his woodworkign but I quickly stole it away.... icon_razz.gif

...wood cutters. I got mine from AJ Wright. Its like a Michaels. They are in the wood hobby section. They look like pliers but they are to cut wood. They are about $20 but I had a coupon for 50% off! They work great and you adjust the size depending on what size dowels you have. They work great.
