Employment issues can be so ticky. I always figure that they don't even need to interview me because I know I'm perfect for the job. icon_lol.gif

But anyway.

Correct me if I'm wrong, you have about four or five tier cakes on your site? You need more pictures on there to convice someone to take you on for $13 an hour. They want someone to carry the weight and I'm not saying you can't carry the weight. I'm saying 4-5 photos doesn't represent that.

Dude if you are interested in getting into a shop, take the cookie gig. You get your foot in the door. You check her out she checks you out. Go for it. It's a different world and it's a lot of fun.

Geez I'd take it if I could handle the commute!! icon_lol.gif

I don't really know what to say to this except that SA is full of cheap, dumb people. You are very talented. You wouldn't want to work for this woman anyway. If she can't be more respectful in her email, then she probably wouldn't be any more respectful to you as an employee. And is she serious about being "upscale?" Tuna casserole and plastic figures? Puh-leeze! That is an HEB bakery, not an upscale bakery!

This can bring not the image you are trying to get across. Your cakes are very good and mostly "hearts and flowers" and a lot of pinks with much lace and the usual wedding and birthday designs but if she looked at the website name and the dark minds eye she may think she was getting something totally different.

Sorry to say this but you made a MAJOR mistake with your selfpromotion.

If I am trying to hire someone I look at all these things but if there email is obscene or childish or goth - you get my drift then I think twice about this.

Did you meet with them or just send an email and your website? Your stuff is great but she may have never gotten past the name of the site.

Anyone applying for a job is told to make a professional email name (preferably your first initial and last name) and any website be named the same. Also make sure when you google your name that nothing inappropriate comes up.

Your stuff is great - but you need a website that is named something for the job or cakes you have. Also you need to tell them you have 10 years of experience baking and decorating as your own boss. Not i am a hobbiest and have never worked in a bakery or cake shop. Tell them every class you have taken, wilton or otherwise. Any conventions or ICES memberships etc.

Big problem with women who do things is that we undervalue what we are able to do when we should be telling people I love to do this and I am good at it!!

Now (and I'm not trying to pick a fight) but I just do not agree with this. I'm not one bit against naming your site to suit your personality. I'm a fairy tale/ mytholigical creature fanatic. When I named my site Nikki's Frosted Fantasies, I did so to reflect that love and my personality. Afterward registering and getting it set up, my brother joked about how many hits I would get from guys thinking it was a porn site. But I find the work speaks for itself. As does the OP. I agree with everyone saying that the lady realized she couldn't afford her. I recently responded to an ad that offered $10-$30 an hour for an excellent decorator. I called after not getting a response to find out that the ad was wrong and was supposed to read $10-$13 an hour. Which I wouldn't take, but I realized at that point that my work wasn't the reason I didn't get the job, but because they knew I was responding to the $30/hour offer.

BTW...I love the idea of the "bird" cookies!!! SIL was telling me she saw some acrylic nails in the nail shop the other day that had "f-u" airbrushed on them. There's an idea....

again, I'm just being silly of course!
