Hello everyone! and thanks in advance for all your help!

I'm making a 3 tier cake this weekend for my niece's baptism and I was planning on making a cross to stand on top of the top tier.

My question is, how long does it take for the gum paste to dry completely, and those of you who have done this, how do you make it stand up.?

Do you make some kind of a base for it?

Please, all your advice is welcomed.

Thanks!

the quickest way to dry it would be to place it in your cold oven, overnight with just the light on. as for getting it to stand up you could either make a base for it or form it around a dowel

since it's your first time working with it, i might suggest you do a 50/50 mix of gumpaste & fondant.. that way it will stay pliable long enough for you to work with it but will still dry quickly land be lighter weight.

I made a cross with gumpaste which you can see in my pictures. I inserted two toothpicks for dowels while it was still wet. It dried overnight and it worked great.
