a small (4" or 6") cake decorated to match the main cake.

given baby on 1st b-day.

cameras at the ready (photos blackmailing as teen later and for dragging out at wedding rehearsal)

while baby smashes it to bits -- into hair, into clothes, all over the face as baby tries to feed self.

I have also made a cupcake size, or even 3D smash cakes. Here's a picture of my cakes for my twins' 1st birthday party. Noah's Ark theme (since "they came by 2"!), a baby monkey on the left & a baby lion cub on the right (after a couple of their nicknames). They're SO much fun!

Some people (my family included) do a smash cake for the baby's "half-birthday" when they turn 6 months old... Or just let them smash a part of the main cake.
