Tootsie Roll Roses

What's the secret behind "perky" tootsie roll roses? I made my first tootsie roll roses, and I was really proud of them at firs. But the longer they sat, the flatter they became. I've seen them on CC, and they are perfectly formed, full, and "upright".

Read the threads on making them, but nothing is said about keeping them from "melting".
