A couple of people asked for a tutorial on the gumpaste hibiscus flowers I did for the recent throwdown. I usually do photos, but I went for something different this time.
Ok, so the lighting sucked... and the camera angle was EXTREMELY unflattering (to both me, and what I was doing) - but I did it.
If you have any questions, let me know.
I'll be doing one on bamboo in the next day or two.
Very interesting thanks! I like the tip for using the cotton wool under the petals.
Look forward to the bamboo one!
Enjoyed seeing you,it was like "nice to meet you, Brandi".

Thanks so much, Brandi, for taking the time to do a tutorial! I am such a visual learner, and it was so helpful to watch your video! Looking forward to the next one on bamboo!
Thanks again!
Glad you all enjoyed it.
I had such a hard time figuring how to make a hibiscus (I have books on orchids and roses and everything else, but no hibiscus!) that I needed to figure out an easy way to do them.
The link to the orchid petal mold is here:

I'm sure you can get them from other sellers - but that's where I bought mine. I bought the hibiscus from Michael's, and it came on a 5 ft long garland, and there were about 20 or so flowers for $10. The extras come in handy when you're making several flowers.
Hope the video helps someone! I know how frustrated I was in my quest to make them - you should SEE my first two attempts, they were very sad indeed.
Brandi,
Do you think this type of mold would work to form the petals? I was just about to place an order with them for other items when I saw your tutorial and the link to the mold you used. Theirs is only $2.00. I think I'll get it and give it a shot...couldn't hurt to try for that price.

(P.S. I am so impressed by the customer service from this company so far...I've spoken to a few people from the company re: items that I wanted that were on back order and they couldn't be nicer or more helpful! This is my first order with them (Country Kitchen Sweet Art) and I am really pleased so far...just thought I'd pass my good experience along.

Certainly looks like it COULD work... the pattern is pretty much identical to the one I have. My only concern would be that I put a lot of pressure to get to the details and shape into the petal - and I don't know how that plastic one would hold up.
For $2 though, it couldn't hurt to try! Let us know how it works for you.
tried accessing the Hibuscus video and got a response tht "this video is no longer available". Help please
Great video Brandi! I'm gonna have to try one. You make it look easy. I can't wait for the bamboo tutorial!

The orchid petal mold was bought from Pfeil and Holing - there's a link to it in the video description. The silk flowers were purchased at Michael's.
Great video and very friendly face which is you!!!
Thank you very much that was lovely.
Does anybody know where else you can get that flower veiner??? I don't wanna have to order 50.00 worth of stuff
wgoat5--I'm going to try this one since I'm already in the process of placing an order for other items as well. I'm sure there's other ones out there. Did you try ebay?

I'm sorry... I could have sworn I also saw them on Globalsugarart.com just a couple of days ago.
I will see if I can't find another source for them.
Something like this would probably work too:
