I know this has been covered but I can't seem to find any threads on the topic.

How in the heck do I get my SMBC to take color? I made a lion the other day and used practically a whole bottle of Americolor Gold in one batch of SMBC and it still wasn't the color I was looking for. SO frustrating! The Wilton paste colors don't seem to do any better job...

Candy colors.. they are oil based and work better in the SMBC than gel color which is water based. It's hard to get it to turn into dark colors, but candy colors mix right in whereas the gel colors look all spotty and separated.
