Hey everyone, I am new here.
Im doing a barbie cake for my daughters 3rd b-day and would apprecitate any suggestions from anyone who has made one before (like what cake mix is best, what icing works best, decorating ideas)
Thanks! - Sarah
There are many, many pics of Barbie cakes in the photo gallery ... if you go to "Galleries", click on search and type in Barbie, you will get a lot of pics to look at to give you some ideas .. there is also a Barbie shaped pan that could be used.... here are some links I found to some more pictures also

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/features/food/sfl-barbiecakespixgallery,0,6020726.photogallery?coll=sfla-food-utility&index=1 (step-by-step instructions that doesn't require a wondermold pan).
Hope this helps!!
the last stand-up doll cake i made (using an actual barbie-type doll rather than a pick) i placed on top of (and to one side of) a larger, oval cake. this allowed for easier decorating, as the doll-cake's dress puddled and swirled at the base (in buttercream), so the extra cake surface was very handy, and also allowed me to place roses and leaves and vines, and also have room for the happy birthday message (and of course, more servings of cake!). just about any cake mix will work in the wondermold, but keep in mind that the cake you bake will turn out somewhat shorter than the mold itself, so you may want to make a small round cake to place the wondermold cake on top of, especially if you're going for a longer, fuller skirt portion.
i'm looking forward to when my 2-year-old niece gets older: i'm keen to do a disney-style cinderella cake using the dress style that the mice make for her, and to place figurines of the little cartoon mice, along with little sciccors and needles and thread and strings of pearls and ribbon around on a base cake.
