My state (NY - it varies by county and I'm in Suffolk) won't allow me to sell from home so I will need to rent space. I am unsure about how to go about finding a place to rent. Do I just start knocking on doors? Who is generally more receptive? A bakery, a non profit like a VFW hall, a restaurant, etc? I would just like a starting point to narrow down my search a bit. I asked my church and they looked at me like I had 4 heads and said no. I wonder if a bakery would entertain the idea if they themselves sell cakes wouldn't I just be considered competition? Thanks for the info and advice.

I live in CA but what I did was I asked the resturant supply company that I frequent. THey were more than willing to give me a few names. When I looked it up in the phone book or on line I found nothing. So chat up the resturant supply people.

Try www.commercialkitchenforrent.com or Craigs List under business or office/commercial...just type in kitchen.
