So i have seen many of these and I am going to be making cupcakes for a friends wedding and she will have 150 cupcakes I really wanna stack them this way with some pretty fall ribbion and leaves but I am not sure what is being used here I thought wood like make you own stand thing but I thought man thats going to be heavy.. so is it some kind of boxes or something.

could be wood -- make each box (level) separate so can mix and match in future to get different effects.

or could be styrofoam blocks that have been covered in fondant or any type of material that will give a smooth surface and be food safe.

could also be foamcore boxes with appropriate internal supports (cross bracing -- think like floor trusses that hold up a floor) -- again make each level separate for mix/match ability.
