When you are using a dowel rod to go through the center of several tiers, what size do you use ?

I don't use dowel rods anymore . I use the thickest meat skewers. I find them easier to use and they are already pointed. When I did I bought the ones Wilton sells which I think are 1/4 inch diameter.

Thanks, Pam..... I use the skewers too, but I thought by the way everyone was talking about "shaprening", etc. that I must be missing the boat somewhere....

I use 1/4" for most cakes. The biggest I'd use is 5/16".
