I'm about to attempt my first batch of mmf and wouldn't you know it...I need it to be red. Do I use the gel coloring like for buttercream, and if so how much would you recommend for one batch of mmf?

Thanks!

red is a difficult color to get with mmf. i would suggest adding red gel color to your melted marshmallows (use more than you think, the color will fade a little) and then add the powder sugar. it'll be so much easier than kneading in all the color.

So my first attempt at mmf was a success. Thanks for the advice on how to color it red. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

I'm so pleased with how the cake turned out, and the biggest reward was how much my daughter loved it. icon_smile.gif

Any chance you could paint it on? I have heard getting a true red fondant is really hard and leaves the guests with pink teeth icon_smile.gif
