Im a newbie and I have been asked to do a bassinet cake for a baby shower, I am up for the challenge, could anyone give me some advice on this? im planning on using a square pan for the mattress and a round pan for the top, how do I support the top of the bassinet? this may help....

two layer base -- stack and ice just like any normal tier.

1 layer round cut into quarter and stood on edge.

for support -- a cake board under the quarter rounds that has dowels support it -- just like building any multi-tiered cake.

rounds glued to each other w/ BC or melted chocolate

also for extra insurance at least one or two -- even three -- skewers put through the rounds horizontally side to side

could also use 1/2 half of 1/2 half of a the ball pan or 1/2 of the soccer ball pan for a rounded top and then carve base to match the curve.
