I am making a dummy cake with one tear covered in rose petals. I intended on them being red, but the gumpaste dried hot pink. It was ashy so I painted them with water and now they look like lipstick red pleather petals. Should I paint with red petal dust? Will that fix it or will it add insult to injury. I don't mind if they are not exactly realistic, but the shinny thing is gaudy.

Dry petal dust should help. try a small test patch, ifyou can, to be sure it will give you the look you want.
