Gottcha, I am still waiting for our badges, if they don't come today I might phone/email.
I think though I could pick up at the show if I don't get them.

I picked my badge up at the show last year. I think they hold onto them past a certain date so they're not in the mail as you're travelling to the show.

I will make a bow out of blue and rose ribbon, too, and keep an eye out for all of you all. Are we tying it to our purses/bags or wearing it on our shirts???

Good question, I can tie the ribbons to my purse, but also pin one to my shirt?? Anybody else?

Last year I got a small Silpat mat, pastry bags, magazines, loads of catalogs, and misc. samples of packaging, etc. Then there's always the pens, rulers, etc. They didn't have much for sale there, but you could order from the different vendors. I got two books, one autographed there by Kerry Vincent!

Okay, one more question. I just talked to my mom on the phone and told her I was going to the convention in AC. I grew up in NJ, but in Westfield (central NJ). My mom said that the last time she went to AC it was really bad as far as crime is concerned. She told me definitely not to walk by myself at night, even on the boardwalk. I walked all over the Las Vegas Strip last year by myself and felt perfectly safe at all times. Now she's gotten me worried. Should I be? I know a few of you said you're from the area. Can you give me some input??????

Oh yeah, there are some VERY bad parts of AC, even just a block away from the fancy casinos. I wouldn't walk alone there at night but then again I wouldn't have walked alone at night in LV either. (during the day, yes, but not at night)

Hi all,

Sorry I didn't get a chance to see any of you guys, except Kat! (that was great seeing you!!! Wish we had a chance to talk more, there was just too much to see!)

For those who went, hope you had as good as a time as we did! (except we ate TOO Much! Man, I didn't expect so much food! We must have eaten 20,000 calories that first day...) We were so glad we finally got a chance to talk to some distributors as they are hard to get on the phone! My DH who does all the business side of things these days is very excited as he now has contacts and we got to try some new products. I had along time with the guy who does the licensing for Bakery Crafts and he showed me some new products that are just now hitting the shelves and even took notes on some of my ideas and requests. That was cool. I wish I had saved more money for large equipment as i could have gotten a floor model table top sheeter for a steal, but just didn't have the bucks right now. Will be more prepared next time!

It was very cool being able to walk right up to Collette Peters and talk to her...what a great down to earth no nonsence lady. Actually, all the "celebs" there was terrific! Buddy told me to drop him an email anytime...

You guys were right about the loot. We filled a small suitcase ..I have enough bowl scrappers to fill a bucket! hahaha

The free seminars were pretty good, although a lot of them confirmed what i already knew..the contracts class was the best! Did any of you go?

We also had a blast playing the slots and walking the boardwalk..perfect weather!

Hope to see you guys next year!

Hi Lorie,

I was looking forward to meeting you, but we ended up spending Monday afternoon at a car dealership ten miles from the show and our vehicle wasn't ready until after the show closed. (2007 blew it's oxygen sensors 50 miles away, at least the dealership was great and had the parts, they also offered us a loaner to get to the convention if needed.) It was just a freak thing, didn't think something like that would happen on a vehicle that has 25,000 miles on it, but I ordered the new one last week, so 3-4 more weeks to go before the new one is in the garage.

We got the Atlantic City just in time for our dinner resv., then we went through the new shops at the pier which were very nice, we went to the profit vs. creativity seminar yesterday and then the show. I thought it was much smaller than in years past, if they hadn't added the gelato expo in with it, it would have seemed even smaller. There were only a couple of vendors that were offering show specials, we bought a few things, but we found a lot of the vendors were more interested in being on their cell phones instead of speaking with anyone. We went by many displays that people were even looking at the product but we noticed the salesperson wouldn't get off the cell phone, so the customer eventually walked away.

I had a bow on my bag and was looking for other's with bows or ribbons, but didn't see any. I have never seen Atlantic City so empty, we have a convention in Vegas next week, I'm sure it will still be busy there even with this economy.

I'm glad you had a good time. I went with my mother, so it's always nice to spend time with her, my husband & son were at yet another convention in Dallas.

Class with Bronwen Weber was great, the best one I have ever been to. She was so nice and funny, taught us alot of tricks. We make a Frankenstein head and everything was supplied. The Expo I was really disappointed in. Last time there was about 10 chocolate stands, we had so much chocolate bars and cookies to try. This year there wasn't that many. We still had a great time.

Unfortantly, you missed the main part of the show..by tuesday, all the demos were done (they had all kinds of cake decorating demos going on which finished up on Monday afternoon, which were all free. A lot of the booths were empty and people were closing up. I wanted to go back and talk to this guy who made labels and he had already packed up and gone home (at 1:00) I agree there were very little show specials...Aetco had a booth there and their prices were higher then online. And you had to spend 20 dollars or more to buy anything. Pheil And Holing had a 10 percent off special on anything in their catalog, which was very nice and I got to try a new fondant that was very tasty, but about a dollar more per pound then fondx, but no show special. As far as crowds, Sunday the place was packed and Monday was even more packed. I also noticed there were very few chocolate people (just someone doing a chocolate fountain and a couple of chocolate transfer booths) I asked one of the vendors about the size and they said Los Vegas is usually a bigger show. Atlantic City seemed to be doing pourly, period. We noticed alot of the bars were empty on SATURDAY night and there was no problem getting a seat in any restaurant any night...the casinos weren't even crowded and the boardwalk was nearly empty compared to other years we have been there. The outlet area also wasn't even that crowded...(we stayed at Ballys and was able to walk to the convention center and save on parking, which was great!)

I had my ribbon on but didnt see any ribbons. I asked questins at all the seminars and one of them wsa very busy so I felt like standing up and just saying "anyone here from CC?" hahaha!

My main complaint was there were people there who didn't own bakeries and they were just there to get free food and muffins, etc. You would be busy talking with a vendor and they would push you aside to try to get to food.

We got there prior to the show opening yesterday and there were a couple of booths closed, but in general the companies were still there, the people in charge were either busy talking with each other or on the cell phone. When I have done wedding expos I would never be too busy talking with other vendors to stop & speak with a potential customer and the cell phone is OFF. It was sad to see what a ghost town it was. There was no one at the new shops and the casinos were empty. We went to Ruth's Chris for dinner, the dining room was empty. In the past we had had lunch a Pickles, the deli at ground level at Ballys and the line was always out the door with people waiting to get in on the boardwalk. No wait yesterday and about half the table were empty. We always wait to go to the expos on the last days during the week so I don''t have to shut down a weekend for weddings and usually the last day is very busy with people trying to get things cheap from the display booths. This week we have weddings all day Saturday and then leave on Sunday to go the next expo Monday - Wednesday. It will be interesting to see if Vegas is as empty as this was.

It is sad..I guess with the price of gas and all, people just aren't going to AC anymore..

I think its awful how the vendors were on cell phones and such. I agree, I would NEVER do that at a show. I guess by then, they were too tired to talk to anyone anymore...I was surprised how people picked up and left early! I guess they were afraid of people wanting to bargain hunt. We used yesterday to try to get some of these manufactatuers to talk to my distrubutor and see if I could get their product..so we liked the quietness of the last day. I did try to get a price sheet from a lady who did imprinting on boxes and she acted like I was bothering her. But she was a NYer..and all the nyers and the people working in AC acted like were bothering them. I don't know how any of you yankees can stand it!

OK I am going to try this again, my forum part of CC keeps going down! anyway, so happy to meet CakegrlPA, and Thanh Thanh (working hard on her decorating)!! What a whole new exciting world it is out there! Cake world I mean!!
Anyway, I know what you mean about the booths, I had a hard time getting enough attention to just get them to scan my name tag, so they could send me catalogue. Some though were very generous with their time.
Wore my ribbons, but sorry did not see anybody else...
I attended the seminar regarding the gift baskets, very good, and lots of information.
The Whimsical Bakehouse cupcake one was good, especially since I had just bought the book and made the cupcakes.
And Ron Ben-Isreal, was fabulous, great speaker, good sense of humour and lots of ideasl!! And I got my photo taken with him, as he was leaving, I will post that later! Somehow...
When is the Vegas Show??
What is it called??
We stayed at Trump Plaza, we are non smokers, and although the room and floor was a non smoking, you could tell that it didn't used to be.
Wouldn't stay there again, need to talk to the "Donald", service was poor, and when we were leaving tuesday morning, we could not get a coffee before 8am, so we had to walk over to Caesars!! thumbsdown.gif , Can you believe that??
Anyway, we will look forward to the next show!

Hello ladies!

It was my first time in one of those shows; I wasnât expecting more than what I saw.
I didnât have any bad experience with vendors not paying attention and talking on the phoneâ¦I didnât have any signal on my cell, how did they got signal?! icon_confused.gif

Atlantic City was not as crowded as usual, but keep in mind the show was mainly during working days and it usually more crowded in the summer.

Me and my b/f got there on Satâ¦.had dinner with friends, gambled a bit and thatâs about it.
On Sunday I took the âBasket Gift businessâ class, I liked it a lot and got great ideas, and then as soon as they opened for the Expo we rushed to take all inâ¦.
Dawnâs products was right in front with all kind of goodies and yummy hot coffeeâ¦did you try those new Cinnamon rolls? OMGâ¦how deliciousâ¦icon_biggrin.gif

Well, we walked and walked, got all kind of brochures and free stuff (I got approximately 325 plastic bench scrappers!) icon_eek.gif

I also got in contact with this company (Lentz Mills) that distributes ingredients for bakeries; I placed my first order with them
last Friday and they have the cheapest prices around hereâ¦cake flour $0.40/ lb!!!!
They have Sweetex, Satin Ice, etcâ¦and they also carry H. C. Brill âlight and fluffyâ BC that we used on the Bronwen W. class, Iâm in love with that icing, light, fluffy, delicious, and it crusts beautifullyâ¦and itâs only $1.48/ lb!!! I donât think I will ever make my own BC again, buying it saves me time/ money and no more greasy mess in my kitchen!.
Anywhoâ¦

I also found this companyâ¦âUngerâ they have great prices for cake drumsâ¦I placed an order with them right there and I received it last Friday alreadyâ¦free shipping.

I saw Ms. Colette Peters doing some demonstrations, she was really down to earth, I love her!!!icon_rolleyes.gif

Sunday night I met âKettlevalleygirlâ (HEY GIRL!!!!!) icon_lol.gif and her husband for dinner!...it was greatâ¦we talked and talked and talked!
and then we played roulette at the Tropicanaâ¦we lost but it was lots of fun!

At the end of the night my b/f and I decided to get some wonton soup at the Chinese restaurant in the casino, every time we go to the Tropicana we end our night with warm Wonton soup that we get with the comps after we loose all our moneyâ¦icon_redface.gif
hereâs when it comes the BADâ¦I normally donât eat pork but for some reason I took a bite of one of the wontonsâ¦later that night I woke up with the worst stomach pain everâ¦.I think I got food poisoned, I got up three times and I was throwing up! icon_cry.gif
I had Browner W. class next morning so I was hoping I could switch for Tuesday morningâ¦but it was full.

On Monday morning I had B.W. class but I could not enjoy itâ¦I was feeling soooo sick and nauseousâ¦I was having cold sweats!
F#$gging Wontons!!!!icon_mad.gif

I took a picture with Bronwen Weberâ¦.yay!!! and I got a diploma, how cool is that???thumbs_up.gif

Later that day we walked and walked and ate so muchâ¦and got MORE bench scrappers! LOL: I also found Keegan Gerhan (not sure about the spelling) from the Food Network and took pictures with himâ¦heâs very nice.

I bought PME cutters, piping bangs, tips, and many other toys.

I also got the last Colette Peters book they had and SHE AUTHOGRAPHED IT for me!!!!! She wrote: âSweet dreams!ââ¦Ohhhhh I love her sooo much!!!icon_lol.gif

Then, I saw our Than Than at the competition, as soon as I saw the cake iced I recognized her!!! How funny is that?!!! I said âthat cake is an original Than Thanâ LOL
I saw her doing all her amazing pipingâ¦sheâs officially on my âawesome people listâ nowâ¦.next day I saw her with a bunch of medals, so I guessed she kicked butt.thumbs_up.gif

On Tuesday there was lot less people but as I gave my last round and who do I find??? Norman Davis!!!
He was at the ICES tent, heâs such a nice guy and of course I became an ICES member right thereâ¦and of course I took pictures with him.
He said he was taping a new FN competition soon and to pray for him!.

I loved Ron B. Israel demo, heâs sooo adorable I just want to put him in my pocket!!!icon_rolleyes.gif
I didnât get a picture with him because he was in kind of a rushâ¦but my b/f saw him later that day walking around and got a pictureâ¦my b/f insists they are BFF now icon_confused.gif....uhmmm...yeah....right.

I missed some good of the free classes (the one about contracts, and wedding cake trends, etc.) because of my B. W. class but overall it was great!!!

We spoke with Lenz Mills as well, and unfortantely, they are based in PA and do not come down south..at least not as south as NC. But were were delighted to find our Dawn rep there and am looking forward to ordering from them..

I got about 20 of those bowl scrapers too! And a pretty nice knife and two baseball caps. and like nine of those Dawn bags hahaha

I spoke with the guy selling the drums at the show...it was still cheaper to order from bakery craft, but I got his name and will see if his prediction comes true. He said that the drums are going to go up in price a lot this year due to the cost of paper, etc...Sigh sigh.

I don't have a bakery business. Can home based cake decoraters attend this expo? Do they check if you have a business license?

Also, if the American bakery expo will be held in Las Vegas can any cc members recommend a hotel.

Thanks. If you took any pictures can you please post to share?
