Help! Need To Make Gumpaste Calla Lilies

I want to make gumpaste calla lilies with a stem. I am going to have the lilies standing up like trees on the cake, so I'll need to make the stem too. With the flower and stem the total height will need to be about 7". Has anyone done this before (with the stem inserted into in the cake)? How did it turn out? Any tips?
