Nope. Not a stupid question.

Rolled fondant is the same as sugarpaste. Sugar paste is a United Kingdom term. Many cake decorating books originate in the UK and you will find some other differences.

Gum paste is not the same as RF.

Haven't you ever heard there's no such thing as a stupid question?? Well there is.....but not in cake decorating!!!! The difference b/t fondant and gumpaste is simple. Gumpaste dries faster and doesn't really taste like anything. Good for flowers and people, but you wouldn't want to cover a cake in gumpaste...yuck! You can do more with fondant b/c it tastes good (sometimes) but I prefer gumpaste for accessories that are more 3-Dish manly b/c it dries faster. icon_biggrin.gif

Actually, sugar paste and fondant are not the same. The fondant is made with a lot of ingredients and the sugar paste is just simple -
1 egg white
1 tbsp glucose, warmed
3 cups confectioners' sugar
