for a cake similar to this one.

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_91507.html

I'll be using box mixes, yellow, chocolate, and lemon. I dr them up with the pudding and an extra egg. BC icing with the candy accents.

I have actually done this cake for my DD's first bday so at least for a second paid cake it should be easier.

TIA

I usually see the people on here say the cost of your ingredients x 3.

I have seen that also but I think that is what is confusing me. If I use the X3 method the cake would be $32.00 but the Matrix is showing $60.00.

How do I know what is good for a small town area? I've only sold 1 cake so far and I know I undercharged because my confidence level isn't there yet.

I think that despite the town you live in, the cake should be at least $60.00. The buyer can't go to the local supermarket and buy the same cake . Don't undervalue your talent. That cake is gorgeous and very unique!!!

Pumkinroses, that cake is too cute. You have to charge what it is worth. $60 is well worht it if they want a unique cake.

Small town or not, that's not a standard cake that they could just go and buy icon_smile.gif

Go with the $60

I agree with the $60 price. That is an awful lot of piping to be giving away for only $32. I would actually go closer to $75, because of all the star tip work.

OK.. from me who has made 2 of these, both in my forums... I was new to this business when I did these and undercut myself... I charged 40 for mine and I only used 4 balls not 5. I think yours is awesome and I too would say no less than 60. I figure the ball feeds 10 a piece easily, so yours would feed 50 + I have been doing $1 a slice plus ingredients, and still undercut myself.... but I have had plenty of repeats which helps me get off and running... Again $60 at the least... like others have said, this is unique and you can't get it anywhere else. Good luck and great work... the last one I did, I used dum-dum pops as my antennas.. have a looksy icon_smile.gif

My first thought was $60 - $75. That's $10 per ball plus the additional items. I'm glad to see that everyone so far is thinking the same thing. I wouldn't do it for less than $60. (We won't discuss what I'm charging for an anniversary cake this weekend icon_surprised.gificon_redface.gif ~ I cut myself way too short also icon_redface.gif )

Excuse me, the matrix? I've never understood how that thing works, could you break it down for me as to how you get $60 from the Matrix? (By the way, I think anything from $60 to $75 would be appropriate for that cake. It's a cute cake!) Thanks!! icon_smile.gif

I agree. I would charge somewhere between $60-$75. The last thing you want to do is undercut yourself. Don't devalue your product!! I live in a small town too and I was afraid I would outprice myself. I remember I had just finished up a very time consuming wedding cake and I was disgusted with myself for charging so little. After I delivered that cake I made a vow, "If clients aren't willing to pay what I charge, I'm not willing to spend my time making the cake!" And you know what? They pay whatever I charge and not once have I had someone say, "That's more than I can afford".

Set your prices and stick to it. She won't be able to get that cake anyplace else.

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone. This is so new to me and I just get really confused sometimes. (Doesn't take much though icon_lol.gif )
