I'm making a quinceanera cake for my daughters friend and I made the Wiltons butter cream frosting on a test cake for her mom. She said it was too sweet. Any ideas on how to make it less sweet or a reciepe for frosting that isn't as sweet. I saw some postings for a whipped frosting that can be left out for several hours like the ones you get from a bakery. I live in Virginia and it seems that it isn't sold on the East coast. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to a 6 cups of icing. It really helps cut the sweetness down.

Anyone else have ideas?
