Can I add luster dust to buttercream? I don't want to paint it on afterward, but would like to have the slight tint and shinyness to a border. Any idea if this would work??

You would have to use a ton of luster dust. Try using the luster sprays-Ultra. Its colorless and adds a light shimmer.
