Okay, lots of questions here! We're doing up the menu for the wedding, and have chosen to get the food from Olive Garden, since that's our favorite date place. We're getting lasagna, spaghetti with meat sauce (no vegetarians to worry about), and fettucini alfredo. These come in disposable aluminum pans, which aren't attractive. Any way to cover them or disguise nicely? It will be picked up right before we are eating, no no need to keep it hot. We'll have three pans of each - TONS of leftovers, but that's what he wants. Can we freeze the extra? Put out one pan at a time, or two? There will be about 30 ppl to feed, lasagna pans hold 12 servings, the others are 4-6 servings, plus salad and rolls. This will be outdoors, at the end of June, with a beach theme. Any creative ways to set up the buffet nicely?
TIA! Nichole
Since you said the wedding will be beach theme. How about like the "minow" said buying wicker baskets and attaching some seashels to them, you can buy them in any craft store,so the dish is sorounded with the shels. And maybe as a center peice on the table you could have one of those big horn shels filled with the flowers that are going to be in your wedding.Good luck.
You can rent the chafing pans and give them to the restaurant to fill. You WILL have to keep the food hot.
Pasta becomes a serious hazard once it reaches 'room' temperature. Chafing dishes come warming trays to keep hot food hot.
I agree. My cousin and I cater and for a wedding (even with a beach theme) I would rent the chafing dishes. They are relatively cheap to rent and will keep your food hot and tasty if you use the warming trays.
Good Luck!
I'll look into the dishes, thanks for letting me know we would still need them. How about the rest? Can we freeze the extra? Put out one pan at a time, or two? There will be about 30 ppl to feed, lasagna pans hold 12 servings, the others are 4-6 servings, plus salad and rolls. This will be outdoors, at the end of June, with a beach theme. Any creative ways to set up the buffet nicely? We're using the shells, but not sure how to set up the food. Would like to do different heights on boxes, but how tall? What order? Etc
A full size chafing dish pan will hold about 40 lasagna servings, so if it's possible to put it all in one pan, then I would do that rather than have to swap out pans when they get empty. The chafing dishes, with the sterno flame under them, will add some height to the foods. If you want to add eye appeal, you might try some tall floral arrangements. these can be simple ..... flowers in a tall vase, for example. If you are serving fruit pieces, I use the large champaigne and wine glasses (Michaels and Hobby Lobby) as the "bowls" for this. Here's a link to a pic of the champaigne glass I use for fruit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/55969028@N00/page2/.
Here's a link to my website page (scroll to almost to the very bottom) http://cateritsimple.com/_wsn/page3.html showing some height ideas. I set whole pineapples on the tables, along with whole bunches of grapes and bananas for a tropical theme.
Here's another link to some pics showing height on my buffets: http://www.flickr.com/photos/55969028@N00/ (2nd row of pics....the "80th BD").
Hope these ideas help!
