What is the best way to advertise?

Putting up a flier or a business card on the cork board thing at local stores. Does anyone know which will do better?

What else has worked for you?

The only thing I've gotten from putting my card on local bulletin boards is people calling me to advertise in their magazine, newspaper, etc., and it's just too expensive for me right now. I've gotten all of my business from people Google searching and finding me that way. Just make sure you are legal in your state before you advertise.

I would probably choose to buy a wedding cake based on:

1) Word of mouth and/or referral from a friend
2) Having been to an event where I saw and tasted their work
3) Internet search (so I could check their website and see their work and pricing)

I doubt very much that I would ever order something from a biz card tacked on a public bulletin board. Actually, in my lifetime, I've never pulled a biz card from a public bulletin board and contacted that biz for any service. You might poll your family/friends and see if they've ever bought anything from a bulletin board biz card posting. That should give you a feel for how effective that method of advertising is in your area.
