Ok, I know that this has to be the most 'bizaar' cake you've herd of...

My best firend's husband is nearing his 6-month mark after having a Kidney Transplant (FYI His father was the doner), anyway... she has asked me to make her a cake in the shape of a kidney. Representing the color also.

I want so bad to do this for them...but am struggling with ideas...
can anyone help with this?

Thank You-

Good Ideas...

Here are my delimas(sp):

* What shape is a kidney?
* What color is a kidney, I looked @ some school books and they show it as purple....I know that's not right!

here is a link to some kidney shaped things http://www.cascade.co.nz/pool_photos/valencia.html (they're swimming pools, but you get the picture!).
and kidneys are dark brown... you could do something in chocolate!

or the next time you're at the store for some cake things, check out the dried bean isle. Most of the dry beans would be kidney shaped. icon_smile.gif

sorry for multiple posts, but when googling "kidney cake," besides a large number of websites about "cake kidney" (which is a rare congenital condition) there was this article about the 1st anniversary of someone's kidney transplant: http://www.kidney.org/transplantation/livingDonors/shareShowStory.cfm?storyID=70
if you scroll down, they've made a kidney cake!

Kidneys are more or less shaped like the beans, and are dark purple to maroon in color. If these folks have a sense of humor about it (sounds like they do), I might be caught using red velvet cake.

Your best bet is probably to freehand it out of a quarter-sheet (or whatever size) rectangle pan and use your scraps for 3-D scupting if you want. It probably wouldn't be too complicated because all you're looking for is basically a roundish, purple-brownish blob.

You could do a bct of the Kidney Foundation logo that is on their homepage. Or you could do "donate life" cake. I just celebrated my 1 yr. anniversary with my new kidney from my sister on Dec. 2nd
