I have seen some great cupcake cakes (is that what they are called?) and I would love to make one - I just have no idea where to start? How do you get the buttercream so smooth between the cc? Is it a FBCT? If it is how do you know the shape to make it? Ahhhhhhh! Someone please give some advice....THANKS!

In case I am calling them by the wrong name this is what I mean:

PS: kudos to montanakate and cassiescakes for two great cakes!!

I have only made two and it was probably wrong, but all I did was lay the cupcakes out in the shape I wanted on my board and iced it like a cake. I even used the "melvira method".

Ok I'm new to this....what is this melvira method that I've been reading about? Please excuse me if I offend anyone for not knowing this!

The melvira method is a method for smoothing icing. It's great.

Thanks BeckySue for asking this question and everyone for the answers. I was researching the same topic. For a birthday party, I had planned a sheet cake with an over sized football. But the mom wants a CCC. Can I still do this (stack a football) on a CCC if I have the right support of dowels ? Should it be rice krispy treats so it is lighter?

Thanks for your help.

Delia
