I was planning what I was going to do for the holidays and decided that I want to make a cake that looked like a carved turkey. I have never carved a cake so I was hoping that all of you could help me. Thanks in advance.
I'm all about 3D cakes, so I just thought you should know...
Williams and Sonoma sells (online ONLY) a 3D turkey cake pan. It is SO detailed, and looks AWESOME!!!!! You just bake both halves, then place them together. I'm totally getting one! Hope this helps ![]()
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=85193 using wiltons egg pan, and mini egg pans for the legs.
for the body, use one half of the egg pan, and carve a slit down the back to give it a natural curve look. carve out the "cavity" on the other side.
for the legs, use mini egg shaped cakes (got my pans cheap on ebay- or you can simply carve these shapes). the wings were rolled buttercream (basically with more sugar) and shaped. the drumsticks were pretzel sticks covered in thick rolled royal icing. use a crusting buttercream. color it brown. spritz it with brown color mixed with water and corn syrup and blot with a dot patterned paper towel for skin texture. place on a bed of lettuce, parsley or berries/veggies.
viola!
