Is it okay to freeze buttercream frosting, and if so for how long. I made a cake a few days before thanksgiving and had a lot of frosting left so I put it in zip-lock bags and put it in the freezer to use on cookies in a few weeks. will it be okay to eat.

It's fine. But I'd refrigerate it rather than freeze it. Just let it thaw a bit before its use. thumbs_up.gif

I think it is better to use an airtight container rather than a ziplock if you're freezing the buttercream.

I take mine and put it in saran wrap and roll it like a giant tootsie roll twisted at the edges and then seal it air tight in a ziplock in my freezer. If it's going to be a week or more before I reuse it, but if less in the fridge it goes. I just chunk off what I need and move that to fridge then when cool not frozen, I smooth it out and decorate away.

I freeze it also in those Ziploc plastic containers, and it does just fine! Just let it thaw in the fridge and then come to room temp before you use it!

You can get the flully texture back by re-beating it in the mixer once it's thawed out a bit too.
