Can You Decorate Using Whipped Frosting?

I have a request for a whipped frosting cake (doesn't like buttercream) I have never decorated with whipped, can I? Ofcourse I have iced a cake with it but never used it to decorate and how does it take color? Thanks
You can absolutely do it like you do with buttercream! It takes colors just a little lighter though, so don't try things like black and red, etc. Stick to more pastels or lighter shades. It works well and tastes great. A nice light change when you don't want the heavier, sweeter icing. I love both.
I haven't used it a whole lot, but its fine for borders and stars and such. you can't make a rose or anything like that with it, its good for pastel colors. I used the wilton in a box than you mix with ice water and the bettercream that you buy already made. some people just like it better.
You should have no problem. All my cakes in my photos are done with whipped icing. For the flowers I usually do them with either royal icing or gum paste

Both instructors at the Michael's I work at make roses out of it all the time.
I'll ask them how when I see them next & post how they do it.
I always just whip the Bettercreme a little more, and roses come out fine. They're not as good looking at BC roses, but they do just fine.
thanks guys for letting me know that you can make roses with the whipped icing, I really like it, I think I might start using it more. Could be my problem is I'm not great with roses to start with.
Is whipped icing the same as whipped cream icing?
Yes, but it's not the same as stabilized whipped cream. Try to find Rich's Bettercreme in a carton that you whip yourself. This stuff is awesome! I like to add a little flavoring extract to it to compliment the cake I am making, and it's amazingly good! Mmmmmmmm!
Thanks Melvira - I have been trying to find Rich's or Pastry Pride for years... Guess they just don't sell it around here... I try to stay away from whipped cream for this reason. This week, I have to make a cake for my aunt's 95th birthday - I will have to resort to stabilizing whipped cream w/ gelatin. What about Dream Whip - is that similar?
Dream Whip is just a non-dairy whipped topping, but it can be used as an ingredient to make a super delicious icing!! I have a recipe if you're interested, but it's not a whipped icing, it's a buttercream type. I only recently found that Rich's is available around here. I was so stoked when I accidentally bumped into it! I wondered why I couldn't get it because I can remember as a kid that Rich's was the brand of cream that people put in their coffee around here, so I thought they surely should have the Bettercreme too! Fortunately they did!! Hmmmm... you know, I'm just assuming that's the same brand. I guess because the packaging looks so simliar, same colors I think. Anyway... I'm off on a tangent here.
I'd love the recipe Melvira! FUnny - I remember seeing when I was a kid too - I saw some frozen creamer in the coffee section thinking that was it, but it was just frozen creamer :'(
edited to add: i saw it in the freezer section, near the Cool Whip, not the coffee section

Yes! That's what I thought! Ok, now I don't feel stupid! Anyway, let me go dig up the recipe!! I'll post it here in case anyone else wants it too!
