I have been meeting customers "1/2 way" for free for a while. I just received an email from a new customer that she may not be able to meet me, that I may need to bring it to her home, which is about 30 minutes from me. Should I implement a delivery fee? What do y'all do??? Thanks for the input!

my prices include a delivery within a 7 mile radius of the center of my town, anything over that gets charged.

Reference the following topics for some other opinions on delivery. Also do a search of the forums for "delivery charge" and "delivery fee" You will get quite a few topics that come up and a lot of different fees and opinions.

I dont' deliver non-wedding cakes.

Wedding cakes are free delivery within a 30 minute drive, based on Mapquest data. Anything outside of that is a $50 minimum and the final number depends on what mood I'm in.

I like indydebi don't deliver non-wedding cakes. I'll make exceptions if it is a tiered or heavy cake for something such as a corporate event. Clients should have no problem picking up a birthday cake just as they do at Wal-Mart and Publix. Wedding cakes are free delivery for anything 25 miles or less and $30 and over for anything above that--I usually charge $1/mile. However, I plan to change it soon and have a delivery fee for anything over 10 miles. I don't plan to deliver to locations beyond 25 miles. The traffic here is a nightmare, and the time it takes to get to a location can be double the time on mapquest and double the stress. 25 miles covers the distance from one side of my city to the other. You really have to use your judgement based on cake size, distance, and traffic.

I charge a delivery charge. When the gas stations quit charging for gas, I will quit charging to deliver!
