a lady came in today...

and wanted a cake shaped like a baby bed...with a curved head board and foot board , lil quilt etc...

i was just thinkin...."man i don't wanna think about this....i can do a couple easy cakes and make the same amount".....

i alread got 2 wedding cakes this weekend, plus all my other orders....and i just didn't feel like thinkin about how to do this fussy cake i never made before....

i guess i've done so many PIA cakes when i was first starting....i just don't wanna do it anymore unless i feel like it.

Everyone goes through seasons. Maybe this one will pass. We all get a bit fried after awhile, but usually it comes back around.
Hang in there! icon_smile.gif

Wow! Maybe something is going around. I feel the same way. I am starting to compile my Thanksgiving orders and I had someone ask if I could make two Turkey Cakes. I didn't want to turn down the business so I quoted an outrageous price and steered her toward two sheet cakes instead. By the time Thanksgiving comes around I might feel differently but right now I can't seem to muster the intrest.

This is the first time it has happened to me I am hoping it blows over. May the same be true of your mood.

Oh gosh, me too! I'm just starting out and my phone isn't ringing off the hook by any means but when I do get a call it's for some wacky shape of cake. (fish, briefcase, pumpkin, 3D barn) instead of a pretty iced and/or tiered special occasion cake with fondant flowers and bows. I have a standing order every Sat for a tea party cake which I make exactly alike (getting that down pretty pat!) Sometimes they request one of my speciatly cakes with more detail but not often. My portfollio is looking more like a wax museum with bizare subjects. I really want to specialize in special occasion cakes and one day maybe even attempt a wedding. Pam from Bama

Well, I think it means you're coming into your own and can CHOOSE to be picky in what you are willing to do and not do.

I know that for me, it's time consuming figuring out how to do a 3d cake and we probably don't charge enough for them. When someone first requested the space shuttle cake, I probably took at least an hour figuring out HOW I was going to construct. Now that I've done it twice and know HOW to do it and to do it efficiently, making it is a snap, but if I had to create a new design EVERY TIME, that would be overwhelming.

If you find yourself not wanting to do something, price it higher. Then if someone orders it you feel better about doing.

At least that works for me. : ) I don't know what your prices are but if you are getting burned out, raising your price can help. You will get fewer orders (maybe) but the ones you do get you will get paid better on so it evens out.
