I just found out that I won a local cake decorating contest! icon_biggrin.gif We had to enter pictures of one of our cakes and the entries were posted at local Wilton shop for patrons to vote on the best cake for Cake Decorating Month.

This was such a welcome surprise since I was down about not being able to go to a gum paste flower class this past saturday icon_cry.gif , since my boy had to go to hospital to have his collar bone relocated back in line, from being dislocated from his brestbone.

Thanks to all the inspirations here on CC. thumbs_up.gif

Congratulations! icon_smile.gif You did such a wonderful job. I especially love the spilled beer bottle....although in real life a spilled bottle like that would be such a party foul! icon_wink.gif

This is how littlegrahamcracker described her cake when she posted the photo on Oct. 7th:

"Caleb's Cake
Thanks to CC member Kgunn for the inspiration for the tacklebox. The tacklebox is white cake covered in BC. The shelves of the tacklebox are gum paste w/real lures. The beer box is a chocolate cake covered in white BC with edibile image wrapped around the cake. The handle is gumpaste w/edibile image applied. This is my first 3D cake"

littlegrahamcracker, I just looked at your cakes in your gallery, they are all great, and your gumpaste flowers are amazing! Congratulations on winning this contest!

ps: Hope your DS is all better by now! Janice

Thanks for the comments

finnox & peajay66 - As for your questions on what is cake - Everything is edible except for the bottle, fishing lures, and bottle caps.

Two cakes - tacklebox is white, with gum paste shelves, beer box is chocolate with edible image wrapped around and the handle is gum paste with edible image applied to it with piping gel.

As for my son - he is doing very well - they put him out and took three doctors to put the collar bone back into position. Worst part he can't do anything for 8 - 10 weeks - which means no hunting for an avid hunter!
So does any one want a 15 yrs old boy who already has cabin fever icon_confused.gif (just kidding)

Thanks for explaining how you made it! I've seen some VERY realistic cakes and thought the bottle and those lures was the most realisitic I'd seen. You do AWESOME work!

Where in KS are you? I'm in NE. icon_smile.gif

I was on the phone with my son at college who is a baseball player and is a big bud lite guy. Go Figure!! when I saw this picture. I am going to try to make this come baseball season when we travel to see him. This is awesome!! By the way my daugher who is 26 is standing here with a sling for the second time with a dislocated shoulder. And she had the operation 4 months ago to correct it. Here we go again!! I know how you feel. Great JOb!!
