Thanks to everyone for answering my question about the height of my tiered cake. Here is the result. You were all right...it doesn't look too tall. I have LisaMS to thank for the design idea. Her cakes with pearls and bows are just beautiful. The bows and pearls are gumpaste/fondant dusted with super pearl dust and the bouquet is purchased from cakedeco.com (thanks again to LisaMS for introducing me to them). This is for a wedding shower tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone and have a great evening.

Very, very nice! Is that IMBC or SMBC? If not how did you get it shiny.

I have a recipe that uses margarine and shortening. The camera flash makes the icing look shinier than it is but it does shine a little. I thought that was a bad thing. This icing came out a little too soft and I think the margarine is what makes it look that way. I am not familiar with those other recipes. I'm still new here but I'm hoping to check out more of the recipes. Thank you for all your comments.

Very nice. I can't wait till I learn how to make tiered cakes. I'm so tired of my flat layer cakes! Only 9 more days till my course II class begins! Haha. Your cake is truly beautiful.

Crazycakes2007. I originally posted a question here about the height of cake layers. I make all my cakes in 2 inch high pans and usually trim them to the height of the pan. For some reason, when I add filling and icing they look too tall to me. I asked how eveyone else does theirs and was assured that 4 inches or a little more with filling and icing is not unusual. I haven't made a lot of tiered cakes so I guess I am still second guessing everything. I just measured this cake. Each tier is about 4 1/2 inches high. Thanks to everyone for your praise. Like everyone here, I can use the boost in confidence. icon_biggrin.gif

Thank you for measuring, I sure appreciate it. I am making the tallest cake I have every made as we speak. (Taking a 5 min lunch break!)I think mine might end up about 5 1/2" and hoping that will be okay! It's a three tier with ribbons wrapped around the base. Keep cakin' <<<<Cheryl

I use the 3" pans all of the time now, and I stack 2 together, so they are 6" tiers, I love the way the taller cakes look, it does make an impressive slice though.

Thanks Kathy, I sure hope it turns out. The crumb coat is on, and I just measured it... it's actually 5" tall. It sure looks to me like a mother of a cake... buggest I've every made. I have to tell you, your measuring your cake for me really helped in the middle of my project. It would have been taller (not good, my hubby is nervous enough!) if I didn't have your help. Thanks for the help and the inspiration! Hopefully pics will turn out too! <<<<<Cheryl
