I want to make butterflies out of fondant. I saw a bakery do this and it was hard and had toothpicks coming out the ends that made them look like they were flying off the cake. But how do you make the fondant hard and secondly will egg white work as a glue/paste?? Your expertise is greatly appreciated.

I just recently made a cake with butterflies, its posted with my pics, the most recent pic, and I made them out of rice paper, its pretty easy to do! As far as fondant is concerned I think if you made them a few days in advance, your fondant would hardened on its own. When I attatched my butterflies to the cake, there bodies were made of fondant, I just used water and it worked very well! Good Luck!!

I think if you mix gumtex in it that might help.

Mixing water with egg whites will give you an edible glue..I think it's equal portions of each!!

You can also use meringue powder and water to make a paste and use this too.. it works as a good type of glue for cake decorations
