First Fondant Cake! What Do You Think?
Decorating By daisyz Updated 29 Oct 2006 , 12:57pm by bonniesido
Here are some pics of my first mmf figure, roses, and cake! I was soo disappointed that the picture of the whole cake is blurry... Oh well, I learned my lesson--don't stand so close! I thought I'd post the second picture too (although half is gone and the roses were rearranged), but at least it's clear!
I'd love to hear what you guys think about it! Any tips or suggestions?! Thanks!
Thanks also to all who helped me make the fondant! Now I love MMF!!!
Nice job and that bear is just tooo cute.
Question--I haven't gotten up the nerve to make MMF yet, still buying the Wilton stuff, how does the MMF compare to the Wilton fondant, in workability and taste?
It tastes 100 times better!!!!! As far as workabiliaty, as long as you get the right amount of powdered sugar in it then it's about the same. Just stir in the powdered sugar until it looks right and feels right to you. You don't always need the whole bag. I learned that the first time I made mine. It came out like a rock!!! lol
Your teddy bear is adorable!!! Great job!!
yellowdog, mmf is SOOOOOOOO much better than the Wilton crap!! That stuff is horible!! MMf is so easy to make, it tastes WAY better, and is cheaper!! I think it's easier to work with. It's not as stiff. The only thing is if you want to make bows or anything that has to stand up, you should mix in some gum tex to stiffen it up. I got a great recipe from this site and I will never again go back!!
That is absolutely adorable! Your fondant looks beautiful! For some reason, my first fondant cake was 20 x's better than all the rest of my fondant cakes have been! I have two fondant wedding cakes for next week, so I figure i better get good fast!
Thanks everyone for all the compliments--you definitely made my day!!!! Yellowdog, if you do decide to make mmf, and have any problems or questions, I posted a thread asking for help with my problems that might help: www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-48112-.html
And dolcesunshine20, I just looked at your photos, and they are all terrific! You have nothing to worry about!
Thanks again everyone!
I'm such a dork!!! Sorry I posted the answer to a different post on this one. I don't know how that happened. Anyway, I think your cake is awesome. I wish my first one was that good.
Great cake, the bear is too cute and the flowers just top it off. What a nice design.
Great job. Love your little bear. You are definitely working well with your new medium!!!!
Oh my goodness! You guys are sooo sweet! Thank you so much for all the encouragement! Now I am like super motivated to make my next cake!!!
Aww! Thanks alaskanmom! I am always the one getting inspired by the cakes on CC, I am so glad I was able to return the favor!
Thanks again!
For the bear, I used some directions for a Sculpey clay bear in a kid's book I had called "Create Anything With Clay" by Klutz. Since it's copyrighted, I can't scan in a page....
But all I did was roll out each piece of the body and shape it, and then glue it together with a powdered sugar/water mixture. I did the eyes differently than the book: I poked holes with a toothpick and then rolled itty-bitty brown pieces and placed them in the holes.
Here are some similar instrustions I found on the internet (the first one is more like the one I did):

I hope this helps some!
The bear is absolutely adorable. Well done on the cake. I learnt about MMF here at CC and once I learnt how to make it, I never use anything else. The taste is yummy.
