I have a pair I bought just for adding pearls to the sides of a cake. Puggy fingers make for sloppy detail work. lol

You use them to make a design on fondant or marzipan. I have seen it done around the top edge, like a border, and stuff like that. Sorry I don't have photos to demonstrate!

They are used to make impressions, imprints on fondant--used a lot in Australia, UK--at least that's what I've read! I haven't used them myself--yet!

They are used for fondant or gumpaste, to pinch the edge of a cake to make cute borders. I've also seen them used on cake boards covered in fondant.

You can see them used in the bottom border if this cake. HTH

You use a crimper to make designs on cakes. Basically, you squeeze the crimper (sort of squeezing it) onto the fondant and it leaves a design.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Ateco has a video clip demonstration on crimpers at their site.

They are used to make a decorative edge on fondant and marzipan icing. If you look at my photos, my periwinkle blue heart shaped wedding cake shows an example of how they are used. They can really make a difference on your decorative edges if you don't want to use an icing border on fondant.

http://atecousa.net//learn/

It's under their "learn" tab. It doesn't say "crimpers demo" but it is under one of the video demonstrations on decorating.
