Help please. I've nearly used up all my red and blue gel pastes, but I still only have pastel coloured fondant icing. I want a rich raspberry colour and a midnight blue colour. I've bought some powdered food colouring and resorted to mixing them with gin and painting it on each cake (bottom tier is blue, middle tier is an amaranth colour and the top tier is raspberry) but it looks terrible, I can't seem to get a good finish on them. I desparatley need some advice. There must be some product that you can buy. I've looked through the gallery and there are lots of cakes that have really rich colours on them so I know that it can be done. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks. Hello,

When I need a really deep color on a cake I use my airbrush if its for most of the surface of the cake (otherwise it would take a ton of food color and taste bitter), or if it is just for an accent or border I use Americolor food coloring to get the deep shade.

Good advice above. For the deeper colors, I buythe precolored fondant and then add more color if needed.

with the raspberry, you may want to try Duff's helpfull hint on tinting it yellow, orange, then red. I forgot, but its on here somewhere! and I made navy blue by using green, then blue, then black. and remember to let it sit overnight as it does get much darker. HTH
