Okay I need some advice... I used the recipe for the 8 ingredient yellow cake on the cc site and it calls for all shortening, 1 cup to be exact. When I baked my test cake tonight and tasted it I was not in love with the flavor, it was kind of blah and crisco like, for lack of a better word. I was wondering if I could use 1/2 a cup of butter and 1/2 a cup of shortening instead of all shortening. Will it change the crisco flavor which I am not fond of. Also if I do this do I need to modify the recipe in any other way? Does anyone have any ideas on how to give this cake a better taste?

Thanks icon_smile.gif

I haven't made this cake, but I do use real butter in scratch cake recipes that have called for shortening with great results and the butter gives great flavor.
HTH, a little!

Thank you i am going to try all butter. Do I have to change anything else about the recipe or the bake time?
