Yeah for me! I just got licensed. (actually, the license is in the mail but all the hard part is done)
So I signed up for my first bridal fair EVER. What would you do? The booth that I could afford is only 10'x6'. I can hang things from a bar across the back, and they will provide me with 2 6' tables. I was thinking of putting one table in the front of the booth with one wedding dummy on it and a vase of gp flowers, plus the book of pictures that I have, and a stack of business cards and coupons (I am having a postcard made with pricing and flavors and pics and it will say "free grooms cake with the booking of your wedding cake, a 75$ value and it will act like a business card as well)
One the back table I will have 2 more wedding dummies and a 3d grooms cake, or 2 grooms cakes and one more wedding cake.
What do you think? What other things do I need to worry about and have on hand? I am providing a wedding cake for a "cake dive", in that I will bake a fake diamond into a wedding cake and people pay to dig through it to find the ring. The winner gets a $2000 wedding ring.
Any advice? They are advertising on the radio/tv/print. They have a live remote with each vendor having a 30 second spot interview twice a day to promote their business.
ALSO... They only have room for ONE cake vendor...and THAT"S ME!!! WOO HOO.
KUDOS! on
your license, and
being the ONLY cake vendor!
(sorry, no suggestions, just congrats!)
Can't wait to see what you do!
I agree. Sounds like you've got it under control. The cake dive sounds like a great idea. The coupon/business card is also a great idea. The only thing I could suggest is to make sure you have the tables covered in elegant tablecloths but I imagine you have that taken care of also.
Congratulations on being chosen the only cake vendor! I'm sure you'll get plenty of business. ![]()

Congrats!
I also just got my liscence and I'm doing my first Bridal Expo on Sept. 16. I have a list of things that I am getting ready for the show also. How about getting a merchant account (unless you already have one) then you can book cakes and take deposits. Which means you'll also need your contracts. I think I am going to offer a 5-10% discount if they book the cake the day of the show. You're brave to offer the grooms cake for free! That's a great deal, just alot of extra work! Very good incentive though!
Are you going to offer samples? I am going to make a bazillion mini cupcakes as testers. I also bought a bunch of pink and white tulle with little scattered rindstones on it and some mini battery operated fairy lights off ebay to put underneath the tulle. There is another Bridal Fair in January, so thank goodness I can just re-use all this stuff again!

I found out in my state that I cannot offer samples unless I obtain a temporary food vendor license. It does not fall under the same as my normal license. Also, would have to have the health dept. inspect my booth, and I would have to have a wash rinse, sanitize sink. Why? I don't know. I wanted to make mini cupcakes in a variety of flavors and have a garbage can available. Can't do it.
The reason that I am offering the grooms cake is bc it is not that much more work, and it will be sitting next to the wedding cake. HOPEFULLY people at the wedding, who were not at the fair, will say...wow...who made the cool 3d cake? Then they will use me for their parties, not just weddings. I felt like even though it is more work, it will expose more people to the variety of work that I can do. A discount, while wonderful for the bride and groom, only helps them. Not me. They still get a discount via the cake, the wedding cake can be smaller (less stressful for me) and I get exposed to a lot more people.
Congrats to you!! I just wanted to say that that stinks about not being able to serve samples!
Wear comfortable shoes, your feet will thank you!! The customer can't see them under the table and it will be a long day.
If you have a small tv that has a dvd player you can create a slideshow of all your cakes and put it up high inside your booth. It can get really crowded and it lets people see your work from a distance. Good Luck and Have fun!
