Where do you guys buy cake dummies from?? I want to get some and can't find them at any of our local craft stores...Any good websites??
Thanks in advance!!
I have a related cake dummy question...I'm taking a fondant class at a local cake store on Saturday and we can use a cake dummy ( I still have to buy one). I've asked if we need to cover it with anything and have been told no.
I'm assuming we'll put a layer of BC before we do fondant (because option 2 was to bring a crumb coated 2 layer 8 or 9 in. round cake). Won't that ruin my cake dummy if I don't have it wrapped in plastic wrap or something?
I recently ordered from Dallas-Foam, but I was slapped with over $20 worth of shipping on a $25 order. Plus, they didn't even tell me what my shipping charges were going to be until after I had confirmed and paid for my order. The good news is I have a ton of dummies, and I personally feel like one after spending all that money on shipping.
Just my own personal experience.

I got mine from Sugarcraft.com. However, I must say, I thought $30+ for styrofoam was quite expensive.
Hi
I have bought from Dallas Foam by their web site. Everything in my order was ok.
Just one thing: they ask a minimum of buying of 25$ and they charge shipping fees of 35$ plus 5$ for handling fees... It costs me around 100$ canadian for an order of 25$ usd !!!
So be sure to order all you will need in advance to avoid the same fees in a month !
Have a good day !
someone posted a link a while back to a place in PA that sells them and I can't find the link or the thread! I had it bookmarked in my favorites and have since changed computers!!!! I will try to find it though. The place was very reasonable on their prices and the shipping was WAY cheap.
I want to say it was actually a custom furniture store, but I can't remember. All I know is that the website had a blue background.
I sell cake dummies, but they are not styrofoam. They are the soft cake dummies. For fondant, they do not have to be beveled. They work very well with both Buttercream and Royal.
I do not have minimum orders and shipping runs an average of $10. This could be less or more depending on the number AND size of the dummies. I can also get the dummies in any height, but the minimum is 2" high and 4" across.
If you would like a special shape that is not normally found in dummies, you can send me an EXACT size template of what you would like and I will cut them for you.
All the information you need on pricing is on my web site, www.thesugarfix.com.

I made dummies by using rice crispy treats. You totally can't tell. I just made them in my pans. Also- totally stale now (including the MMF) and I've decorated, redecorated several times.

I just ordered from Dallas foam also. Their prices are so inexpensive in the first place, tht even if you figure double to cover shipping, they are still about 1/3 to 1/2 less then anywhere around here!
They also called with the shipping quote pior to shipping to make sure I was going to be ok with the amount.
Here is the place in PA that sells dummies. They are a furniture manufacturer (sofas). I haven't ordered yet but will soon.
They have every shape & size you could want from 2" thick to 6".
Example: a 4" x 12" round is $3.76
Here are their shipping cost....
ALL SHIPPING via UPS
$5.00 BOXING & HANDLING FEE PER BOX
MOST ORDERS SHIP WITHIN 24 TO 48 HOURS OF BEING PLACED
( We're usually good on those times, but when we get backed up with orders it could take a little longer. )
NO MINIMUM ORDER (1 OR 2000 PIECES)
Pass the word!!!
Heres the place in PA. Great prices & fast service.

Can you just get slabs of styrofoam and make your own cake dummies? Or are the ordered ones different?

I totally agree with this. Even after paying shipping, I saved an average of TWO DOLLARS EACH on my dummies from Dallas Foam and I bought 20!! I will order again from them any day!
I have seen them on ebay. Here's the link. I don't know how they compare in price, but I know that they are cheaper than in the local stores I've been to.

I ordered my cake dummies from guildcraftfurniture and let me tell ya.... They are awesome and not expensive at all! The guy I spoke with, Craig, he was very courtious and even when I called back almost an hour later to change my order and add to it, they were still wonderful. They are who I will be getting mine from as long as they are in business, and I live in Georgia!!

I ordered from them too and was very happy with the service and price.
Here's another place that sells them: http://www.taylorfoam.com/taylorfoam_com/cakedummies/
Can someone help -- there was another thread on cake dummies which I cannot for the life of me find, and it had a link to some company (not Dallas-foam) which sold not only standard cake dummies, but also dummies for things like the pillow cake and other unusual shapes. Does anyone remember this link?
bobwonderbuns - I know you said not dallasfoam, but I was just checking their website and they have the pillow shaped cake dummies as well as some other funky shapes. Just in case you happened to miss it.

Thanks, I'll have to look for it again. I saw the standard shapes and the topsy/turvy shape but that was it. If you have a link to it, can you let me know? Thanks!
LOL glad you found them!
I think I might order some of the pillow ones - this is the first place I have seen that shape.
That's one of the shapes I'm interested in, but quite frankly I don't see them listed for order (or am I missing something again? )
see if this works

I have no idea how to make that a link.. so you'll have to copy and paste. The pillow shapes are at the bottom of the page. Along with lighthouses, columns and all sorts of stuff.
HTH
That's the link I have. On the top of that page where you click to order, there's no place to order it on the form!
