What is madiera? is it wine or a liqueur? I saw some one on one of the forums asking about a madiera cake. Just wondering. Thanks

I looked it up on google. They had a couple of cake recipes that called for wine. So I am going to assume that it is wine.

I think it is a wine... and Madeira cake is a basic cake made with butter, eggs, sugar, milk..that is dense in texture..it has some lemon peel in it (or at least the recipe I have does)
I think they use this type of cake for sculpting in the UK..maybe here too..not sure about that..
Hope that helps

It's a sweet, dessert-type wine!

Madeira is a fortified wine . It is in the same category as Port and Sherry.

Madeira Cake is the traditional cake that was baked to eat with a glass of Madeira - it has no alcohol in it's recipe.
