This cake was a groom's cake for last weekend. It was so much fun to make! The groom loves boiled peanuts and eats them from a #10 can. His mom wanted me to recreate the can and make a huge peanut. When the cake was cut people were freaking out. They kept telling me "I knew the peanut was cake, but I thought that was a real can." One lady even thought I put a cake inside of a boiled peanut can. It was a blast to see everyone's reactions! It was a chocolate fudge cake with peanutbutter cream filling and chocolate frosting.

It was really fun to have a cake that wasn't so serious and I just enjoyed making. The only down side is that I don't like thwhite baord and wish I had used another color. Oh well, live and learn.
Thanks for looking!
LL

Thank you all so much! I didn't know boiled peanuts came in a can until this. Yes the label is an edible image put on fondant. The peanut is carved from cake and shapped using smooshed up cake, then covered in fondant.

I have been doing cakes off and on for a long time but I don't get into anything too complicated and have never worked with fondant. I don't really like it so don't care to get into it. My daughter has made several with fondant but nothing real detailed. I think they look wonderful but I prefer good old buttercream. icon_lol.gif

I love it! I am trying to come up with a cake to enter into a contest at the National Peanut festival in November. I wanted to carve a peanut, but wasn't sure it was entirely possible. What color did you use to make the fondant on the p-nut.

You did a great job!!!!

great job! that peanut does look awesome! Did you say you used smooshed up cake to make the "ridges"? Or did you use fondant underneath fondant to make the ridges? Great job!!!!
