WOO HOO!! It was for the grandson of one of the women who work with my mom. He's 4. I got the kit from decopac. it wasn't too hard, but cutting it to size and stacking it was pretty difficult. I used the Cake icing tip for the 1st time (OMG where has it been all my life!! What a wonderful invention! I love it) and i think there was just a LOT of icing and i couldn't get a real good grip on the cakes to stack and they kind of just plopped down. didn't get the nose right in the middle because of that. Oh well, she absolutely loved it. Didn't get to see the birthday boy's reaction, because i delivered it to grandma's house, and they are transporting it to the party!! Wasn't prepared for that one! I stacked it well, but hope they are careful!

Oh yeah, i charged $40, and that included the $10 for the kit. It says it feeds 30 people, but that has to be with those tiny 2x2 pieces. I would probaly be only able to get 20 pieces from that. And the decorating itself was pretty easy, so i didn't think there was any need for a bigger price.
Congratulations on your first order!! You've done a great job. Can I ask what's a cake icing tip???
How CUTE is THAT ! I think I would have charged more though.....just because of the work involved....
Can I ask what's a cake icing tip???
Wilton #789, it's a huge basketweave tip that you can flip over and use to ice your cake. i always have a problem with getting enought icing, and getting the same amount on each side. This tip is just WAY easy to use and so much better than a spatula. Just pipe it on, and smooth over the lines, and your done! AMAZING!
Ain't it a great feeling???? You did fantastic!! I agree w/ previous post. I would have charged more for such a fantastic cake!
**Icing tip is a really large tip made by Wilton for displacing icing w/o having to blob it on the cake and then spread it. It kind of glides your icing on to the cake as you go. You just smooth it out after applied. Some people can't live w/o them.
Congratulations on your first order!! You've done a great job. Can I ask what's a cake icing tip???
Believe she is talking about the Wilton tip #789. It is used to cover the cake in icing rather than using a spatula. You get less crumbs when using it, I think. I don't know because since I started cake decorating, it is all I've used. I love mine=) You can go to the Wilton site to see it. Here's the link

Hope this helps
Thanks! It feels really great to know i did that! If i had known how difficult it would be to cut and stack, i would have charged a bit more. But probably not much more. going rate around here is $1.50 a piece. And i'm just starting out.
I may do this again, for my son's 2nd birthday!
Good job! Watch out, because you're going to start getting more Thomas orders! Also, you mentioned that you should only charge about $1.50 in your area - but check for "3D cakes" - that's a lot different than a sheet cake or a decorated cake... you should probably charge at least $2/slice for a cake like that - and that is the starting-out price! If you look at my website (www.ocakes.com), and look in my gallery under birthdays - my 3D Thomas cake (using the wilton choo-choo cake pan & the rest is hand carved), I charge $105 for it... $45 for Thomas alone, because of all the time involved... and he only serves 10-12, so that's $4.50/slice right there. People will pay more for such cakes & with all the time involved - you deserve it! Congratulations on your first order completion!!! So exciting! =)
I think you did a great job and I also think they got a heck of a deal for $40.00
I think you could definitely charge more for that type of cake!
I love the icing tip also - I find it's a great time saver!
