Thank you, thank you!

And, the icing on the cake, so to speak, is that DH and DC (dear children) spent the night at the in-laws last night so I got to sleep in this morning! I'm all alone in my wrecked house (the kitchen may never be the same!), drinking coffee and reveling in the silence!

To answer your questions:

1) No, I didn't mold the band. Bought the figures off ebay. It was tough finding figures small enough. These guys were 5 inches tall. Their arms were flexible so they helped to hold up the guitar.
2) The couple loves the band KISS so I started from there. One morning, my son woke up at 4 a.m. and after getting him back to bed, I was wired and decided to just stay up and brew a pot of coffee. I started sketching the cake and came up with this. I highly recommend getting a box of colored pencils. Seeing it in color really helped. Plus I used cake dummies so I could get the scale right. Not to mention brainstorming with CCers!
3) The bride loved it. I've got a funny pic of her giving the "fist of rock" sign next to the cake.

That cake is sooooo cool!!!!! You did a great job! Too bad about the flames, but if you hadn't told us, I wouldn't have known that was missing. Great job!

They were supposed to stand up around the edges of the cakes and hide the tiers. I cut them out from orange, red and yellow marbled fondant. But I was OK with missing them, they might have clashed with the other colors anyway.

ah, now that I think of this...you could've added a T of gum tragacanth to a pound of fondant and made your fire and they would've been sturdier to use than just the plain fondat.

it dries to gumpaste hardness!

a tip for a next time! thumbs_up.gif
