Just thought I would let you all in on something I came across. There is a place near me that does kitchen counters, cabinets, sinks etc. I went there yesterday and was talking to the guy about cake and how we use tools for cakes etc. that aren't made for cake. He said would you ever use a thick board to put a cake on, and I said yes, but wood is expensive and right now we are saving money for a bakery and trying to cut corners. He said when they cut out a countertop for the sink to sit in they throw away the piece of countertop (formica sp?). So he said they just have them all sitting in piles outside and I could take what ever I wanted! FREE!!!!
So there are about 50 out there, all different types with the marble look - white/cream, grey, blue, black/grey. They were cut into perfect rectangles with rounded corners. Imagine where your sink is in your kitchen out bathroom if it it set into a flat countertop. It is about 1 inch thick too!
If anyone has any countertop places near you - this might be worth looking into. Free no less!!!
There is a photo I just uploaded of the pillow - it is sitting on the countertop piece with a white ribbon around the edge. This is the marble white/cream!
GOOD LUCK - Hope you all can find somewhere too!

Thanks for the info, we have a countertop place nearby and I will be giving them a call. Maybe I'll throw in a free cake for them!!!
thanks again!

Maybe you could make these nice people a yummy cake!! They are probably so happy you can use these pieces and after tasting a fantastic cake will probably talk about it to their customers. More orders for cake coming your way to put on those great cake boards!!
Just an idea.

This thread made me realize that I've been overlooking a great opportunity. My dad is a contractor...remodels kitchens, baths, etc and I'm sure that he's got [or has come across] some pieces of wood or countertops that he has no use for but I sure could!! Going to talk to him...well, not tonight...a bit late for that.
Thanks!
