Does anyone know of a non crusting buttercream recipe and a whipped icing recipe that will hold up to do flowers and other decorations. I am looking for one for next weekend. Thanks in advance.

I can give you my non-crusting b.c. recipe that I use all the time. (On my kitchenaid)

2lbs 4oz shortening, (not 0 trans fat)
1/2 pound butter, just above room temp
Beat with paddle until incorporated and just a bit fluffy
2lbs powdered sugar and 2 tbsp vanilla

mix on first just til incorporated, then beat it on 4th for 4 minutes. (Depending on your mixer size, 4th is not the fastest speed)

It will make great flowers and stand up well.

I use 1/8 cup pastuerized egg whites along with this to make a shiny smooth, non-crusting buttercream. Will not make stand up flowers with egg whites.
