ok fellow cakers...i need opinions. honest ones...should i charge the customer for this cake? i'm not happy with it at all. it was the first cc cake that i've ever done, really easy, but it didn't come out anything like i envisioned...what should i do? to charge or not to charge...that is the question.

thanks, jen

I think it's really cute. Don't say anything to the customer and I think she'd like it, if she has a complaint give her a discount but don't give her it for free.
I know I see every flaw in my cakes that others don't see at all.

looks to me as if she is getting what she ordered! What about the CCC isn't Sponge Bob?

Well, you can tell it's made of cupcakes, because you didn't stagger the rows to make them closer together. That might be a problem with a different design, but for Spongebob it definitely works. (And I L O V E Spongebob!) I would pooh-pooh you if you told me not to pay for that.
Remember - always say "I meant to do that!" icon_biggrin.gif

When I first looked at the photo I thought "what is wrong with this CCC?" It looks fine to me.

Then I read down where someone pointed out you could tell it's cupcakes. So I thought "Oh ok, on a CCC you shouldn't be able to tell?" I took another look at the photo. Yes you can see the cupcakes. But you know what? I think it looks wonderful. Sponge Bob is a sponge and has lots of texture because of that. So the look from the cupcakes goes great with this guy.

Charge her and be happy about this! You did a nice job so be proud.

Joanne

I think you did a great job! I agree with the others when they said to not say anything because the person buying it may LOVE it. If I had ordered cupcakes made like spongebob your picture would have been exactly like what I would have anticipated. And like Duff says--"you can't let the cake push you around!!"

I love the way that you pushed the indentations in to give him the sponge look! It is very cute! If someone had made that for me I would have been thrilled!

It is cute and I love the dimples. Yes, definitely charge for this ccc.

My suggestions for future cccs is to apply a thicker coating of icing on top so you can't see the outline of the cupcakes. Adding a top border following the curves of the cupcakes is a nice addition also. You wouldn't be able to tell as easily from the top view if it was a cake or ccc. Hope this helps.
