Guess What Happened To Me Today? Yeah!

So there I was at the craft store buying some cake boxes, since my order didn't come in.... tired.... long stressful day (I can't wait for school to start again)... in line... and when it is my turn, the lady at the check out asked me if I make cakes. I told her I do... and how did she know... and she told me that she notices me in there buying stuff only for cakes, never for other hobbies... My first reaction was to tell her what a limited supply that they had for cakes, and that is why I usually shop online... but I didn't say anything. She asked me if I have some cards that she can display bc people ask for decorators all the time. So I gave her all that I had on me...about 10, and she asked me to come back later and bring her more. YEAH. Hopefully it will bring new business.
Wow that's awesome! Talk about being in the right place right time!
Hey!!! That's great! I'm very happy for you and hope you get lots of business! Next time you're in there, you should bring in more business cards and show her some of your cake photos. This way, when she helps customers purchasing party-related supplies, she could not only mention your name but that she's personally seen your work!
Best wishes! ![]()
hooray!
I work at a craft store and I don't discuss my business with any customer for any reason.
Even when helping I don't say "well I do this for a living and I use...." because I feel it would become a conflict of interest and it looks like I am trying to get them to order a cake and not buy products.
Best of luck with it and I hope you get LOTS of orders from it.
thanks everyone. I hope it get some business from it. I haven't been back yet, so I don't know if they even have any cards left or if it is a dud.
The ONLY place to get a cake here is from Walmart, grocery stores, and one wedding company, but they only let you choose from two flavors and don't do fondant. The market is prime here.
That is really great! If you don't mind me sharing!
I was helping a customer in the cake isle today and she said "Do you do this? I may just call you!" I gave her my card cause she had 3 kids! Sometimes it pays to go to the craft store once in a while! Glad it worked out for you! ![]()

My favorite part of your story is how you held back negative (well, not positive anyway--
) things
and you were given a great opportunity for it!
i hope you get some good business from it too...maybe now that she has opened the lines of communication maybe you can suggest that they need to improve their cakes section.
it may help so you dont have to order online and wait and pay the extra shipping.
