Pastillage Question And Happy Birthday

Hello CCers.
Can anyone tell me what consistency I should be shooting for when making pastillage? I just made my first batch and it looks and feels like fondant only MUCH more difficult to knead. Is this normal or should I do something to it to soften it up?
